"Two Pages..."

...in my sketchbook done during Thursday's workshop.

The top page was a work in progress throughout our the day.
It became obvious instantly that if I want to get better drawing people
I must make this a special focus...and we all know the drill:
Practice...Practice...Practice!

The second sketch...
was one of two of my major focus sketches from the day...
(I'll post the other sketch tomorrow...)
drawn lead free during a limited time period before lunch
and
painted lightly after lunch...and more heavily at home.
(I crosshatched over a myriad of mind & compositional changes at home too!)
I learned that, unlike my sketch above,
I want to try a bit lighter touch with my painting...
highlighting with color my main focal area...leaving the rest to be loose
and airy and less defined...
it is a different approach than I am used to...
and one that intrigues me.
Right now I think want to give it a go...

We'll see what "tomorrow" brings! LOL :)

I do so love the colour in your work. Here (Norwich - in the UK) it is snowing and cold - looking at this post has made me feel warm! I am looking forward to seeing your experiment with style. I guess I have not been going long enough to find my first style, let alone try a new one! Thanks for cheering my day.

I love the color you use Margaret. Like Marancat I am still trying to find my style. Practice, practice, practice is what I am doing.

The colorful worlds you create bring the sunlight into this dark november land of mist and moss that we dwell in, on the pacific west coast this time of year.

Your blog is like sunshine~

Oh goody!!! I have been anticipating some sketches from the workshop and you never disappoint me. I love that you are confident to try a new style. As others before have said, I haven't yet found my style to change from! Please do post more of the workshop sketches, I am truly enjoying them.

I love the loose lines in the top image, and the bright colors are a delight!

Nice work! Artists all seem to get to a point where loose painting is the way to go. Your tiny penwork like the pebbles in the forground are part of your "style" and will incorperate into a looser style, don't leave them behind totally, we love them!

Lol - the people you drew were sitting - well, I find even they tend to move more than I can handle so I think you did very well. Your second picture is lovely. It is looser than what you tend to do but still colorful and like taking a mini vacation.
