"Up, Up, and Away..."

...A few recent travel sketches...
drawn lead free...
from my Illinois travel sketchbook/journal.
These were drawn on my lap
while awaiting
departure of our early morning flight
from Phoenix to Chicago
last week.
I love travelling with my sketchbook! :)
Watercolor
was added after I returned to Arizona.

I've always loved your sketches from a day in the life of Margaret :)

Mmmmm, that cherry croissant!

I had an emergency landing on US Airways once. I didn't fly for nearly 8 years after! I used to call them US Scareways! But actually the pilot did an awesome job of keeping us safe. He was just as frightened and he let us know after the fact. We all applauded when we landed!

I enjoy seeing travel journals. They are a blessing while "waiting" in the airports too. So colorful as are the people and sights seen while traveling. Did your toes get cold??

You were back here? Very cool - in every sense! Your sketch makes the airport look look much more interesting than it usually is to me. I find myself sketching people absorbed in books and iPods, or sleeping. We're thinking about taking the Metra to Chicago Friday since the Art Institute is free this month. I always love trips to the city.

Hey Margaret, I liked the way you left your spirals in the sketchbook images, made them feel so tactile and wanted to grab hold of and turn the pages!! Great use of colour for sketches and lots of intereting detail.

I love these sketches. I have always wished I could sketch like this but mine turn into scratching messes. :)

Yes, these are really nice - besides well done, they're very interesting! Also, I love the quote at the end ... something everyone who flies should remember, given the state of airports these days! nancy

You keep a wonderful sketchbook! These are awesome!

Your sketches are very impressive for being done at 5:00am! i can barely walk through the airport at that time of day, let alone be very observant. Your sketchbook is wonderful.
