"Well Hung..."

...from the ceiling
in the center of the Wildflower Bread Company
(click here for a quick link...it's a cool place! )
is a glorious chandelier bouquet of huge glass flowers
wrapped in copper.
This always reminds me of the work of the one and only

(BTW...there will be an exhibition of work by Chihuly
"The Nature of Glass" ( a really awesome link)
at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix
from November 22, 2008-May 31, 2009!!!
I am so excited about this...
as a group of us are planning a special sketch crawl
there in December....WOWZA, eh???!)

Okay...back to my story...
Since I did not have my sketchbook with me today
I managed to do a quick overall sketch
with a scratchy ball point pen
on the back of a store receipt I had in my wallet
scribbling in
all kinds of "codes" for color and shape and form
while slurping my potato cheese soup
and
nibbling away on a hunk of freshly baked nine-grain bread.
What a delicious mess!

The above images are the "fruits of my labor"...
I think that the one I "flipped" looks really "Chihuly-esque."

When you have only two pennies left in the world,
buy a loaf of bread with one,
and a lily with the other.

very startling the second one. a quick scribble on the back of a receipt, now that's something i could never do. ' when you have two pennies, buy a loaf of bread and give the other penny to someone who also needs a loaf of bread!'

I bet that chandelier is gorgeous. No wonder you were inspired to paint it. Good job.

I got to see a Chihuly exhibit in Chicago. It was several years ago. It was awesome. I didn't want to go at first becasue I didn't think I would like the display of glass work in a botanic garden. Ididn't get it until I went. Then I wanted to go back. Just beautiful. I have a friend that lives in the Chicago area. She got to go at night and said it was even better than seeing it during the day. I hope you get to see the exhibit in both lights.

This is gorgeous! We also have a permanent Chihuly room in our art museum here, and also a permenent collection at Fairchild Garden in Miami. Pretty cool glass work! At the art gallery, you sit in a round room and look up into the ceiling which is filled with all kinds of undersea plants and marine life!

From a scribble on a receipt to the beautiful paintings! Wonderful. I really love the "flipped" one - you're right about how it turned out.
