"Midwest Travelin'...Pt.8"

A "SUMMER'S END" GARDEN OF JEWELS...
"Illinois Prairie style!"

...Perky ebony Black Eyed Susans...

...Chirping emeraldy crystal-winged Cicadas...

...Powdery pink-purple Cone Flowers,

And, last but not least...
a grouping of lily-like ivory white Hosta
...drawn during an all-day rain shower...
now nestling safe and dry in this artist's traveling sketchbook!

I never managed to find and photograph a living cicada! It's beautiful, with the green wings. The hostas look great, we have these in the south of France too.

Thanks for reminding me to go out and appreciate the flowers that are left in my garden today. Love your hosta, mine are looking rather bedraggled now (the ones the deer haven't eaten!).

Love that mound of black i'd susan! end of summer color is so intense isn't it. I'm attracted to the colors and shading on the tree bark in your sketch!

Thanks everyone...The cicada shot was pure accident...I went to lean on a lower cut limb of our crab apple tree and was just about to place my arm down when YIKES! there she was...inches from my face! :) LOL Of course I ran for the camera...she stayed right where she was and posed like a pro! :)

Seeing this cicada reminded me of a boy I grew up with who used to catch them, tie string around their necks, and leave a long tail of string, so we could hold on to them and fly them around the neighborhood! I'm sure they were purely tortured, and many a one died from this treatment....but what a great memory of such fun times in childhood!!! Thanks!
